The Cartoon in Harper’s Bazar

(The second “a” in “Bazaar” was not added until the mid-1930s.)

In 1922 the Biancos were new arrivals in New York. Pamela was instantly famous and Margery published The Velveteen Rabbit that year – so soon mother and daughter were the talk of the town. Margery published two stories in Harper’s in 1922 –The Little Wooden Doll and The Skin Horse.

Here we find Margery and Pamela in a caricature of celebrities by Ralph Barton called “In the Elevator.” Can you spot them? (They are second and third from left in foreground.)
